DEVOTIONAL READING

The following guided devotional readings or lectio divina are intended to be used during the 3-Day RESET with the theme,
"Renew" on January 26-28, 2022.

Devotional Reading

Devotional Reading, or Lectio Divina is a practice of reading the scriptures not by analyzing or studying, but by simply listening. This practice invites us into God’s presence to listen for his specific, loving word to us at a particular moment in time.

In Lectio Divina one listens to the word as it is read aloud to you, or as you read the text aloud for yourself.

Devotional reading of Scripture is rooted in the assurance that every part of the biblical story—letters, parables, Gospels, Prophets, history—is inspired and can give voice to God’s particular word to us.

Day 1: Looking Back with Gratitude

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30

Day 2: Being Still in the Present

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. - Psalm 51:10-12

Day 3: Recommit to Jesus

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31
