DEVOTIONAL READING

The following guided devotional readings or lectio divina are intended to be used during the 3-Day RESET with the theme,
"Generous God" on October 26-28, 2022.

Devotional Reading

Devotional Reading, or Lectio Divina is a practice of reading the scriptures not by analyzing or studying, but by simply listening. This practice invites us into God’s presence to listen for his specific, loving word to us at a particular moment in time.

In Lectio Divina one listens to the word as it is read aloud to you, or as you read the text aloud for yourself.

Devotional reading of Scripture is rooted in the assurance that every part of the biblical story—letters, parables, Gospels, Prophets, history—is inspired and can give voice to God’s particular word to us.

Day 1

1 Timothy 6:17-19

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Day 2

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Day 3

1 John 3:16-18

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
