Class 1 have had a fantastic year and it has been an absolute pleasure to see how much they have achieved. I am incredibly proud of all the children and I am sure they will continue to flourish in class 2! Thank you for all of your hard work class 1, you have been awesome!
This term we have made the most of our beautiful school grounds and used the plants and wildlife to support our Science learning about life cycles and foodchains. We have released our beautiful painted lady butterflies and we have grown beans and also seen what happens to plants if they have too much or too little water. Unfortunately our bean plant was overwatered (by me!) and did not manage to survive but thankfully Miss Krzyszkowiak was more successful with the radishes she planted with the children.
We have loved developing games and building on ideas, playing sharks and fishes and playing attack and defending games. We have some very speedy competitive players in class 1 and they can certainly sprint with determination.
We have enjoyed finding out about coasts and have read lots of books with a seaside theme. The Reception children have made some amazing under the sea models and the Year 1’s have had fun experimenting to create waves and watching the effects on sand to help them learn about changes in our coastline.
We have had fun in DT creating stick people and learning to sew. Y1 children have created simple pouches and learned how to create a running stitch.
Class 1 are so creative and imaginative and this has been evident in lots of their play. They have made some incredible models and joined in with role play and in our music and singing, they have loved our Charanga ‘imagination song’. Super singing Class 1- keep on dreaming and creating, and let your imagination sparkle!
We have a fantastic group of children in year 2! The year has flown by and the wonderful
summer term is almost over. As always, we have achieved some amazing things.
Worry dolls have been made in art as we learnt about sculpture. A visit to the woods to select
our twigs started our project, with the finale being the decorations on their magnificent outfits!
We have used the great outdoors to support our science learning this term. Many seeds and
bulbs have been observed and planted as we have sought answers to our investigations into
what plants need to grow. We have some very knowledgeable children at Cawood as we
researched information and shared some amazing facts together! I’m sure we have a few
budding botanists in school.
Health and wellbeing week was a wonderful week, and gave the children an opportunity to take
part in different sports and wellbeing activities. Cricket was very popular as well as the
competitive assault course. We were very proud of all the children as they took part in
all the activities and challenges with a huge smile on their faces!
One of my favourite things about the summer term is when we take the opportunity to read
outside. The children make the staff very proud as we watch them become absorbed in their
books.
We will certainly miss our well mannered, thoughtful class as they move into Key Stage 2! Well
done everyone, enjoy the summer break and keep reading!
