HELP WANTED: GREAT VOLUNTEER JOBS FOR CREATIVE RETIREES



CITVN COOP is a voluntary association of retired artists and entrepreneurs who produce and distribute cinematic 4K documentary and streaming media video productions. Each summer we hop on planes and trains to travel for 21 days filming a documentary video project. And, we produce during Fall and Spring semesters the 13-week CITVN Forum university lecture series focused through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching. You are cordially invited to join the fun. We are all volunteers. 100% of CITVN COOP net operating income pays for indigent beds in sober houses for homeless men and women in recovery from addictions.


4K Broadcast Camera Operators - Will Train


If you love the idea of creating films and sharing ideas but prefer to stay behind the scenes, you might make a perfect fit for a job as a camera operator. As a camera operator, you will be asked to operate the camera during all filming and some live broadcasts or other programming with our company. Your additional jobs include setting up live broadcasts and caring for camera equipment to guarantee filming moves smoothly and stays on schedule. This is the perfect job for an individual who has an innovative, creative side but prefers the privacy of being behind the lens. Working with us gives you the opportunity to build a solid resume in the world of film and broadcast.


Job Responsibilities


  • Operate 4K Sony DVX-9 camera as you record scenes for documentaries and live stream broadcasts


  • Know and apply the technical aspects of lenses, film, filters, light and camera settings to each shot to ensure the director gets the effect he or she wants.


  • Arrange studio sets to best suit the settings on the camera, and control the lighting equipment, film stock, audio and cameras to get the result the director desires.


  • Maintain, clean and test all broadcasting equipment and cameras to ensure every tool is in good working order each day before filming starts.


  • Watch filming sets closely to determine if problems are present in regards to camera angles and lighting and notify the director about issues before filming starts.


  • Remain updated on new technology, filming techniques and current industry trends to ensure you bring the latest methods to the job.


Technical Skills You May Teach or Learn

  • Practiced in 4K Sony DVX-9 advanced digital video techniques

  • Practiced in 4K broadcast production setup and direction

  • Camera settings, angles and lighting are a critical element of visual storytelling

  • MS Teams

Live Stream Directors - Will Train


Virtual events involve guiding presenters through appearing on webcam and best practices for sound, lighting and internet connectivity. Then controlling the technical and visual aspects of running the event, switching between shots and following the running order.

Screenwriters - Will Train

Screenwriters are an essential part of any documentary film or live stream production because they're responsible for creating the dialogue, characters, and storyline that make up a movie script, or choreograph a live stream event. Volunteers contribute to completing a 4K cinematic documentary video project within a year.

Technical Skills You May Teach or Learn

  • Develop and research ideas focused through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching

  • Create an initial framework, or treatment, for funding

  • Write or adapt a story into a script

  • Create a PowerPoint storyboard

  • Weave together visual elements in scenes with plot and dialogue.

  • Research grants, write proposals, administer grants

  • Meet virtually with potential underwriters to pitch the documentary ideas.

  • Work with producers and editors to adjust the script as needed.

Screenwriters may come up with original material, write a script based on actual events, or adapt an existing work (such as a book, play, or film). For an adaptation, screenwriters rewrite and rework existing material with legal permission. For scripts based on actual events, screenwriters must do research before writing.

Video Editors - Will Train


CITVN COOP video editors handle the post-production phase of creating videos or films. CITVN COOP video editors hold their finished videos to high standards, aiming for coherent storylines, seamless transitions, visual appeal, and alignment with creative vision. Volunteers contribute to completing a 4K cinematic documentary video project within a year.


Technical Skills You May Teach or Learn

CITVN COOP video editors are well-rounded creatives with a good grasp of storytelling, photography, videography, and design. They have the technical expertise to use video and design software with ease, and they work well in high-pressure environments. Generally, we are a volunteer association of video editors with the following skills:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software

  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects graphic and visual effects software

  • Adobe Audition sound editing software

  • MS PowerPoint design for storyboarding and illustrations

  • MS Teams

  • Work in the office and remotely from your home

Business Development Managers - Will Train


CITVN COOP Business Development Manager implements the daily activities of the non-profit organization's development programs. Assists in the development of goals and strategies for all fundraising campaigns. The Development Manager plans and implements marketing programs and special events to maximize prospect/donor engagement.


If you love the idea of meeting interesting people and are detail oriented, this is the volunteer job for you.


Job Responsibilities


  • Conduct outreach (calls, email) to potential university professors to invite donation of a lecture to help the homeless


  • Conduct outreach (calls, email) to potential university and parish underwriters to invite donation for an annual linked banner


  • Manage volunteer recruitment


  • Manage monthly newsletter publication


  • Maintain subscriber database (16,000 parishes, 196 Catholic universities)


  • Manage daily social media communication posts (LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter)
