CITVN COOP is a global 501(c)3 nonprofit cooperative association of media professionals who collaborate remotely to produce documentary and live stream productions that benefit universities, museums, nonprofits and give voice to marginalized populations in global society. Our productions are focused through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching. We are inspired by the Communications Day Messages of Pope Francis to create media for a culture of peace. CITVN COOP net operating income supports homeless people in recovery from addictions.
CITVN COOP, INC.
is managed voluntarily by a Catholic Worker Movement community
of formerly homeless mentally different people in long term recovery from addictions
The first Catholic Worker community was started a few blocks from Wall Street in 1933 by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin. They sold a newspaper - focused through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching - from Times Square for a penny. Think of CITVN COOP documentary and live streaming productions as a 21st-century version of Dorothy Day's newspaper. We broadcast to a global audience of 47,000 social media and newsletter subscribers, to include religious and educators in 16,000 parishes, 20,000 professors at 196 Catholic universities and 15,000 LinkedIn subscribers located in 76 countries. It's not Hollywood, but not bad for homeless people.
There are 226 Catholic Worker Movement communities throughout the world. In 2005 the Dayton Catholic Worker opened our home to the homeless to focus on the needs of our East Dayton 12 Step recovery communities. There are many reasons for homelessness, to include: job loss, domestic violence, felon re-entry, addictions and mental illness. I know this because for 16 years our website has received each month over 7,000 pageviews and averages 230 calls in response to a Google business listing for homeless shelters. And, because I am one of them.
Catholic Workers may not live beyond the means of the least among us. We pray and practice the Works of Mercy. And, we try to be self-supporting as best we can. In poor inner city neighborhoods, we have to get creative to self-fund our cottage industries and indigent beds in three peer-supported faith-based sober houses of hospitality.
We have been homeless, know the ropes and can help you untie the knots. Catholic Workers invite the homeless into our home. Need help locating homeless shelters, mental health service providers, addiction treatment centers, 12 Step communities, sober houses, food kitchens, furniture voucher, obtaining birth certificates and other IDs, filing for Montgomery County welfare benefits, SSA Disability determination, SSA Representative Payee, HUD subsidized housing, rental agreements and problems with landlords, HEAP energy assistance, evaluating healthcare plans, tax preparation, starting a business from scratch on a bootstrap budget, advocacy, or just need someone to have a cup of tea with who has walked in your shoes, give us a call.
We do not accept drop-ins. We schedule visitation by appointment only at this time due to COVID pandemic. If you are homeless and need immediate help, please call or email for assistance. We can set up a Zoom conference call with you that we may meet with the immediacy of face-to-face.
