Dear Parent / Guardian,
My name is Sebastiano Stellato, and I have the pleasure of having your child as a student in my World Language class at Carteret High School for the 2025-2026 school year. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Carteret High School's World Language Program. This will be my 24th year teaching World Languages at Carteret High School.
I feel that it is very important to have meaningful communication with parents and guardians to ensure achievement for all students. Success is based on the interactive cooperation of students, parents, guardians, teachers, counselors and administrators. This success is achieved through a mutual sense of respect and responsibility. I will, to the best of my ability, help all of my students whenever they are in need, nurture their potential inside the classroom, and teach them the necessary content material required at this point of their education. At the end of this school year, your child should be able to communicate effectively in the target language at their appropriate proficiency level, and also understand certain aspects about the culture of the target language country.
In today’s global community, students will benefit from learning a second language, which can help prepare them for college and their future career. Being multilingual is an advantage that employers look for in a candidate. Not only will students learn to communicate effectively in the target language, they will be able to enhance their knowledge of their own native language and be able to appreciate the cultural diversity within their community. A large percentage of students pursue job opportunities in production and in-person services where being able to use a second language will give them an advantage. It takes many years and a great deal of dedication in order to become fluent in a second language.
In order to succeed, it is important that the students demonstrate interest in the class and show pride in their accomplishments. Gradually, they will become more comfortable and confident in speaking the language. Another way to promote second language acquisition is to refrain from judging their progress against unrealistic expectations. The language will be presented at an age-appropriate level and pace. The majority of instruction focuses on oral language development, thus a considerable amount of classwork and homework may be oral. Fluency in any language only comes after years of sustained exposure and practice.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I welcome any comments or questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me. The best way to get in contact with me is to send me an email. Please take a moment to browse my Teacher Page about classroom rules, school procedures and district policies. Please make sure that you contact the school to set up an account for Parent Portal so that you may check your child’s grades and attendance online. I look forward to working with you this school year.
Respectfully,
Sebastiano Stellato
