Here are Carmel College we have a wide range of musical groups you can participate in - there is something for everyone. Joining a music group is a wonderful way to get involved in school life, make friends, develop confidence and leadership skills, and of course to have fun!
The Orchestra, Jazz Band and String Ensemble take part in the KBB Music Festival, we have several auditioned small chamber music groups, 3 choirs, and rock bands that can enter SFRQ. The senior choirs take part in the Big Sing Regional Festival each year and all choirs take part in the Treble Voices Festivals, and various groups play at school events and concerts such as Stations of the Cross, the Music Showcase, and Prizegiving.
Click on the subpages in the menu above to find out more about each group. There are sign-up forms on each page. Joining a music group is a year-long commitment, with attendance at rehearsals expected every week, as well as doing your own personal practice between rehearsals.
There is an annual non-refundable admin fee for joining a Co-Curricular Music Group - if you are in multiple groups you will only be charged once. This fee helps to cover some of the costs such associated with running these groups, such as accompanists, the purchase of new music, festival entry and transport costs, maintenance of large instruments/amps etc, copyright licensing and general administration costs.
If your are joining Carmel part way through the year, you may not be able to join a group straight way, please chat with the HOD Music, Ms Hayley Barker, about this or any other queries you may have: hbarker@carmel.school.nz
