September-oCTOBER

• Senior English Classroom Lessons: Life After High School Part 1, September 23-24

• Develop a list of colleges that meet your student’s needs and enter “colleges applying to” in Naviance (CSU’s and UC’s)

• If applying to colleges via Common App, add colleges in CA then match account with Naviance.

• Create an organizational system to keep track of materials needed, deadlines etc. (Application Info Tracker) pay close attention to both application & scholarship deadlines.

• Complete Brag Packets in Naviance

• Request letters of recommendation, in person, at least 2 weeks/10 school days prior to the application deadline. Submit official request for teacher letters of rec in Naviance. 

• Start rough drafts for Common App Essay, Supplemental Essays & UC Personal Insight Questions: *Revise, Revise, Revise*

September-october 

• Attend College Application Workshops at lunch hosted by CHS Counseling Department 

• Sign up for College Rep Visits on Naviance: September 29-November 6

• October 1:

  • Launch applications through Californiacolleges.edu (CCGI)

  • Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) OR CADAA (California Dream Act Application) and possibly CSS Profile (select colleges)  

    • Students and Parents need to create logins

    • Attend statewide workshops

  • MiraCosta Application for Fall 2027 opens

  • Register for the ASVAB (@ CHS on 11/18/26)

NOVEMBER-dECEMBER

• Review applications and ensure everything is correct as changes are not allowed after submission. 

• Submit all applications and supplemental materials by required deadlines.

• Once applications are submitted create student portals

Keep track of logins and check portals frequently for tasks and communication from schools

• Begin applying to scholarships by reviewing College Financial Aid Websites

• Special Education: Initiate contact with a college's accessibility services office

January-February

• Apply to Local Scholarships:  Check Naviance for list of scholarships and continue to review College Financial Aid Websites

• School Counselors will provide Financial Aid lesson in Econ/Gov classes at CHS

• Submit final applications (regular decision or rolling admissions)

• Check with School Counselor about sending your Mid-Year Report/transcript

• Submit FAFSA/CADAA if not submitted earlier

mARCH-mAY

• Review admissions decisions and weigh college options

• Compare financial aid letters and packages

• Submit FAFSA/CADAA applications by Priority Deadline of March 2, 2027. *to be considered for Cal Grant*

• May 1st: 

  • CHS: Deadline for Community Service Hours (20 hours for graduation) 

  • CHS: Deadline to submit Off-Campus Course Transcripts 

  • Submit “Intent to Enroll” or “Intent to Register” at College of Choice

• Pay attention to requests for transcripts (CHS/Community College/etc), housing deposits, mandatory orientations

• Final Transcript- Will be sent after graduation*
