Concurrent Enrollment

The purpose of concurrent enrollment (CE) is to provide a challenging college-level experience for students in their last two years of high school.  Course offerings in Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Fine Arts, Humanities, World Languages, Career Technical programs and Education have been implemented in high schools throughout the state. 

Concurrent Enrollment and Carbon School District

 Concurrent Enrollment is available for Juniors and Seniors at Carbon High School as long as they are eligible academically according to guidelines below:

Academic Class Guidelines - A student who enrolls in a concurrent enrollment class will have the appropriate GPA; 3.5 for Juniors and 3.0 for Seniors. (Sophomores accepted by approval only through Carbon High and USU Eastern – must have a 3.75 GPA to apply.  Contact CHS counseling office for information.) There will be no exceptions.

All Concurrent Enrollment must be accessed through the Utah State University Concurrent Enrollment website: www.usu.edu/concurrent/ 

**For students planning to take a Concurrent Enrollment course or a CTE course through USU Eastern, we will have a meeting in May with representatives from USUE.  If necessary, we will have a video meeting or record the information for you to view.  If you need to apply to USUE, you may apply starting in May.  You will need a SS# and the $50 application fee and parent/guardian approval.  REGISTRATION for Concurrent Enrollment or CTE courses at USU Eastern will take place in EARLY AUGUST.  You still must ‘request’ the course you would like to take NOW and if it can be scheduled into your schedule for next year, you will then go through the registration process with USUE.  Because most of the CTE/CE courses require an additional application through the department at USUE, we will work with them to get you the application necessary for classes…..that is another reason why it is extremely important for you to REQUEST all courses you plan to take, while staying within the 10 period limit.**

Students and parents should be mindful of the following:

•  Admission and enrollment policies and deadlines are established by the postsecondary schools and the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE). Should a student miss the deadline for admission or enrollment, there is no opportunity for late enrollment.

• Should withdrawal from a concurrent class be necessary, it is the student’s responsibility to follow all University/College guidelines for withdrawal. The student must understand that withdrawal from the high sc
