Let's Get Dysical
‘Dysical’ comes from a merge of the words, ‘digital and physical’, and also sounds like dizzy, which is how I have been feeling! The project ‘Let’s get Dysical’ is about taking ownership of the narrative of moving in between both the physical and digital art world which is mirrored by the experiences of life in my twenties moving between cities and countries often. It aims to explore becoming an amalgamation of the places I’ve called home and the influences they have had on me and my work.
Being in my 20s I have experienced by far the most difficult stages of my life, constantly moving houses within or to different cities or countries. This has forced most of my work to become digital, after multiple moves with a giant easel, paints and other materials, it became hard to keep up, access or even have space to do.
With ambitions to travel, be independent, to have a physical place of my own and figure out what my place is in this world; it has been hard to know where home is and what home feels like. I had to find ways to find home within myself. Recently I realised that in the last four years I was running towards these ideas, never having time or safety to stop and reflect. And I’ve been thinking… I can’t be the only 26 year old who feels this way. I’d like to intentionally create work that explores these experiences and themes, to find common ground with those who relate to similar feelings so that we don’t feel so alone and can share these struggles together.
