So what's the difference? In a nutshell: the funding. Public schools get most of their funding from state governments and private colleges receive theirs from private donations and tuition. Community colleges (sometimes called Junior or City colleges) are government-funded two-year colleges that grant associate’s degrees and certificates. For many students, community colleges are important pathways to furthering their professional and educational goals.
During the 2018-19 school year, nearly eight million students enrolled in at least one course at a two-year college. Students attend top community colleges for a variety of reasons, not least because they cost less than four-year institutions. Often, community colleges offer an educational setting that is more intimate with smaller class-sizes and teacher-to-student ratios than larger universities. Additionally, community colleges often partner with universities, allowing students to easily transfer credits and earn a bachelor's degree.
The best community colleges also prepare graduates to begin working in their respective fields sooner, which appeals to nontraditional learners or those with professional responsibilities. Students who choose this route can also acquire pursue professional experiences and establish themselves within organizations sooner than students who earn four-year degrees.
The short answer is, "No." However, looking into career options that are a good fit for you and knowing what majors would qualify you for those careers can be helpful criteria in narrowing down your college choices. There's no point in attending a school that does not offer the major in which you are interested!

What's the difference between "Early Action" and "Early Decision"?
If you're going to work with one of your teachers to help you on an essay, be sure to schedule an appointment with him or her AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE the essay's due date. Teachers will also give feedback on a draft in person and send you back to work on it before reviewing it again - allow time for this process!

*Read through the following directions carefully and WEEKS before the application due date. The amount of time given to teachers to write does not only improve the quality of their letter, but it also demonstrates to them the level of responsibility and time management skills you exemplify. Remember, you can always ask teachers to get started on a letter of recommendation and they can personalize it to the college/program of your choice as needed.
DIRECTIONS:
Make a copy of the “CHS Senior Brag Sheet” and complete the questions thoroughly.
Make a list of the colleges in which you may be interested in applying and note their application due dates.
Make a list of adults who would be able to speak on your behalf (e.g. teachers, coaches, employers, etc.). If needing multiple letters of recommendation, try to ask a diverse group of adults who could describe you from a variety of perspectives. Do not disclude those adults who observed you overcoming adversity - demonstrating perseverance is a huge strength!
AT LEAST 2 WEEKS prior to the due date, reach out to each of the adults from whom you would like to request a recommendation by emailing them this template:
Dear Mr./Mrs.______________________,
State your purpose by politely asking for a recommendation in the opening sentence.
Take the next 2-4 sentences to explain why you feel that this teacher is an excellent selection to write your recommendation. (i.e. your classroom experience, achievements in a certain course, and/or your personal interactions and connections)
Specify the colleges, program, scholarship, etc. for which you are applying and any details that might be pertinent to why you are applying.
Include the due date that the letter of recommendation needs to be sent in by.
Include how the letter should be sent (e.g. Common App., email/address of recipient, etc.). Be sure to include a stamped envelope if it needs to be mailed.
Close the email by thanking the teacher for considering writing your recommendation. Let them know that you look forward to his or her response.
