An SSR (Silent Sustained Reading) is also known as your chapter book. Every student must have a book they reading. This book will be fiction, in your reading zone, and NOT a book you have read before. As we learn reading strategies and more about learning to read, you will apply those new skills to your independent reading book/SSR.
Reading Goals- We use amount of pages read per 9 weeks to determine a page goal/reading goal. Studies show that if a student is reading on their level, then they should be able to read "about" 1 page per minute. If students read 20 minutes a day for 4 days a week that = "about" 80 pages per week. In 7-9 weeks, the student should then be able to read more than 500 pages. We begin our goals with 400 or more pages per 9 weeks and add more as the year progresses.
