CCS staff will work to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces (e.g., playground equipment, door handles, sink handles, drinking fountains) within the school and on school buses at least daily or between use as much as possible. Use of shared objects (e.g., gym or physical education equipment, art supplies, toys, games) should be limited when possible, or cleaned between use.
Schools will utilize cleaning products that meet EPA disinfection criteria.
Cleaning products should be avoided when near children, if practical. Staff will ensure that there is adequate ventilation when using these products to prevent children or themselves from inhaling toxic fumes.
CCS will discourage sharing of items that are difficult to clean or disinfect.
Teachers will work to keep each child’s belongings separated from others’.
Ensure adequate supplies to minimize sharing of high touch materials to the extent possible (e.g., assigning each student his/her own art supplies, equipment) or limit use of supplies and equipment by one group of children at a time and clean and disinfect between use.
Avoid sharing electronic devices, toys, books, and other games or learning aids.
Schools will configure in a way to provide appropriate social distancing for students and staff.
Space seating/desks at least 6 feet apart
Turn desks to face in the same direction
Children must sit one per seat on buses. Siblings may share a seat
Provide barriers as needed for displaced classrooms
CCS will install physical barriers, such as sneeze guards and partitions, particularly in areas where it is difficult for individuals to remain at least 6 feet apart.
CCS will provide physical guides, such as tape on floors or sidewalks and signs on walls, to ensure that staff and children remain at least 6 feet apart in lines and at other times as necessary.
Close communal use shared spaces such as dining halls and playgrounds with shared playground equipment as possible; otherwise, stagger use and clean and disinfect between use.
During the Pandemic, Campbell County Schools will be closed to visitors, nor shall schools utilize volunteers. Parents may enter the school and report directly to the main office if they are wearing a cloth face covering.
CCS shall serve individually plated meals in classrooms instead of in a communal dining hall or cafeteria.
Use disposable food service items (e.g., utensils, dishes). If disposable items are not feasible or desirable, ensure that all non-disposable food service items are handled with gloves and washed with dish soap and hot water or in a dishwasher. Individuals should wash their hands after removing their gloves or after directly handling used food service items.
If food is offered at any event, pre-packaged boxes or bags will be used, for each attendee instead of a buffet or family-style meal.
Schools may consider implementing strategies to maintain healthy operations.
CCS shall offer options for staff at higher risk for severe illness that limit their exposure risk
CCS shall offer the Campbell County Online Learning Academy as an educational option for students at higher risk of severe illness to limit their exposure risk.
CCS will pursue virtual group events, gatherings, or meetings, if possible, and promote social distancing of at least 6 feet between people if events are held and limit group size to the greatest extent possible.
Athletic and extracurricular activities will follow all applicable CDC, VHSL, and VDH guidelines. In general, any activity must be social distanced per these guidelines for internal and external activities.
CCS will work to group student and staff as much as possible to have the same group of children stay with the same staff (all day for young children, and as much as possible for older children).
Limit mixing between groups as possible.
Each school nurse is the point of contact for COVID-19 concerns in collaboration with the school principal.
CCS will work with families to:
Self-report to the school if they or their student have symptoms of COVID-19, a positive test for COVID-19, or were exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the last 14 days. Schools are required to follow applicable HIPPA and FERPA regulations regarding safeguarding student and staff information; however, contact tracing in conjunction with the VDH will require the school to identify close contacts of a student or staff member.
CCS will notify the school community via electronic means regarding any changes of school schedule due to school closures and any restrictions in place to limit COVID-19 exposure (e.g., limited hours of operation).
Parents are to conduct a daily health screening of their children prior to allowing them to report to the bus or to school.
CCS staff will perform a self-screening prior to reporting to work and will conduct daily health checks of their students.
Daily Health Screenings: Prior to arrival at school, all staff and students shall self asess their health by answering the following questions: Have I had?
A new fever (100.4 or higher) or a sense of having a fever
A new cough that cannot be attributed to another health condition
Shortness of breath that cannot be attributed to another health condition
New chills that cannot be attributed to another health condition
A new sore throat that cannot be attributed to another health condition
New muscle aches that cannot be attributed to another condition or activity
Encourage any organizations that share or use the school facilities to also follow these social distancing guidelines.

CCS will work individually with students and their families to mitigate stress and work to build resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
