Information is noted as of July 23, 2020 and will post updates to this page as information may change.
This is the most recent information from the Virginia Department of Education regarding Driver Education. Our first priority is to provide opportunities for those students who were unable to complete their range/road hours before the Covid-19 shut down in March. Driver Education coordinators at each school will begin collecting this information immediately.
For the upcoming school year:
Driver Education will be taught in a blend of face-to-face instruction as well as remote learning based on the individual school schedules.
The Virginia Department of Education requires 36 sessions (50 minutes each) of face-to-face instruction and 14 sessions (50 minutes each) of range and road instruction. These requirements are in place so students continue to receive the highest caliber of driving instruction.
Instructors will have training in preparation for a new model of instructional delivery to include a blend of in-person and distance learning.
Student safety is of utmost concern and mitigation factors will be in place for both the classroom and in-car instruction:
Face coverings worn by instructors
Physical distancing in the classroom
Physical guides to help students follow all protocols
All instructional vehicles will be thoroughly sanitized before and after each lesson as well.
