Will my child’s IEP be amended?
Prior to the start of school, your child's special education teacher case manager will be in contact with you to discuss how your child's IEP may need to be amended to reflect the unique circumstances of each school’s schedule (In-person, Blended, Remote). One of the School Board's goals is to prioritize vulnerable students and students that are not able to participate in remote learning due to the nature of their disability. With this priority, students with significant needs requiring all day special education support and participating in the aligned special education curriculum program are a top priority for attending school in person. The board has approved this program to return to school for 5 days. Students participating in the Early Childhood Special Education Program may be able to attend the 4 day a week program within their school, with only minor changes to their day-to-day programming as determined by their IEP team. Students participating in the general education curriculum with non-disabled students may attend school on the same schedule as all students, unless otherwise determined by the student's IEP team. Each school, especially middle and high schools, will communicate specific daily schedules for students.
To reiterate, due to the unique circumstances and the hybrid schedule adopted by the school board, each IEP may need to be amended prior to the start of the year. Your child's special education teacher and school will be in contact with you at least two weeks prior to school opening.
