This tutorial will show you how to create a Cura project .utf file using the new Ultimaker Cura software. The new Ultimaker Cura software. is available on all the CADLAB machines. It has a new interface and completely re-written slicing engine for improved results. You can also download and install it on your own computer for free by visiting Ultimaker Cura. Once the software is installed, proceed with this tutorial.
To create a Cura project .utf file, first open Ultimaker Cura software.
Once the software opens, you need to make sure that the right type of 3D printer is selected. To do this, check in the upper left corner next to open folder icon.
If it the first time the program is opened step through the wizard to setup the 3D Printer. If you have already setup the printers skip to the next section by clicking here.
Click on Get Started
Agree
Click Next
Skip the Sign-In
Finish
Skip What's New.
Click on Add an non-networked printer.
Select Creality 3D then select CR-10S from the list of printers.
Leave CR-10S Settings at default by checking Next, to finish the printer setup.
Add another printer. Click the drop-down by the Creality CR-10S Printer. Then choose Add Printer.
Add a Non UltiMaker printer.
Next click on Add a non-network printer.
Scroll down to Anycubic and choose Anycubic Vyper. Then select Add.
Accept the default settings and click Next.
Add another printer.
Repeat last four steps.
Scroll down to Creality3D and choose Creality Ender-3 / Ender-3 V2. Then select Add. Rename the Printer Creality Ender-3
Repeat last four steps.
Scroll down to Creality3D and choose Creality Ender-3 S1. Then select Add.
Accept the default settings and click Next.
Next determine what color of print you want.

Creality Ender 3S1 - Printer 5002
Anycubic Vyper - Printer 5003
Creality CR10S - Printer 5004
From the Drop down choose the printer you want use for your print.
Anycubic Vyper 1
Creality Ender 3
Creality Ender 3 S1
Anycubic Vyper 2
Creality CR10S
NOTE: If printer is not listed in the drop down, repeat the the above procedures for that particular printer.
That the Vyper 1 and 2 are the same printer so they share the same settings. Its just a matter of choosing the color you want.
From the drop down in the upper left corner select the printer next to the open part(s) folder. Here we will select Creality CR10S .
Go to the Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code.
In the Post Processing Scripts dialog box choose Add a script.
Select Create Thumbnail.
Change the Width and Height to 300px. Then click Close.
Now click on the drop down for Print Setting.
Next click on Show Custom.
Scroll down to Support. Uncheck Generate Support, we won’t need supports for this project.
Scroll down to Build Plate Adhesion. Change Build Plate Adhesion Type from Brim to Skirt. Press the drop down arrow to retract the drop down
Minimize the Print Settings.
Next you will need to add your 3D model to the build platform.
Click on the Open button that appears in the top left side of the Ultimaker Cura application window.
Select all of the Lego Car files that you converted to .STL files.
Loaded Parts are not placed on the build plate properly. We ne to move and rotate some of the parts.
Spread the parts out.
To move a part select the Move (T) tool in the left side tool bar, then click on the part. To drag the part in one of the X, Y, & Z directions, click on the tip of the arrow and drag in the direction you want. To Free Drag click on the part and drag to its new location.
A third method is to enter the X, Y, Z coordinates into the move tool.
To move multiple parts, hold down shift and select the parts you want to move. Then use the desired move technique described above.
Rotate the parts and be sure they are laying flat on the build plate.
To rotate a part select the Rotate (R) tool in the left side tool bar, then click on the part. Select the desired axis you wish to rotate. Click on the tip of the arrow and drag in circular motion until you reach the desired angle. Note the angle read out, it snaps every 15°.
In the Rotate Tool area you have 3 options. 1) Reset, 2) Lay Flat and 3) Select a face to align with the build plate.
To rotate multiple parts, hold down shift and select the parts you want to rotate. Then rotate to the angle needed.
Make duplicates or Multiples of the tires. Right click on the tire and select Multiply Selected..
Enter 3 and OK for the number of Multiples.
Now repeat for the Wheels and add one more Axel. Your layout should contain all the parts shown below.
Double check that all the parts are laying flat. Control + A to select all and click Lay Flat.
Now select Slice to prepare the project for printing. This cut the part into small layers the the Extrude deposits a bead of PLA (Plastic) on to the bed and subsequence layers.
When the Slicing sequence completes it gives you the amount of time that the print will complete and option to start the printing process. DO NOT select Print at this time!

Now you are ready to save your project in the the Cura .3mf file format. Click File> Save Project or Ctl + S. Choose Save on the Cura Project Summary Dialog box.
When the Save As dialog box appears, change the Save as type: to UltiMaker Format Package (*.ufp). Name your file with your "Last Name_Lego Car" in it. Be sure to Save the file to your network folder.
Next we will open OctoPrint. Start by opening Google Chrome.
Choose the printer below from the chart. In the address bar of the browser, type in your particular printer’s web address.
In my case I want to print to Creality CR10S, I typed in the appropriate address.
Now you will log into OctoPrint. Username: CamStudents (Remember case sensitive). Password: C@mStu1964
You are now logged into your OctoPrint Printer.
Now open up File Explorer. Navigate to your file.
Drag your UltiMaker Format Package (*.ufp)/G-code file, you exported from UltiMaker Cura, onto the screen and release it on the Upload locally side.
In the File List, notice your print.
The instructor will start the print soon.
