The RA is responsible for the organization and facilitation of the Social Events Team.
During the first month of classes, the Resident Assistant should inform their residents about SET and work with the Area Coordinator or Resident Director to select two first year students to serve on the SET.
After the SET is selected, it is the Resident Assistant’s responsibility to convene the group, establish a consistent meeting time (work with your Resident Director to do this), and facilitate meetings.
The Resident Assistant should keep things moving, create an organized system of accountability, serve a resource person, and encourage consistent floor events throughout the year.
Events
SET plans activities for their specific floor.
These activities should not be limited to social events.
A SET may invite another floor on campus to join them for an event.
The SET that initiates the invitation should be specific if costs will be absorbed by the inviting floor, or shared equally or partially with the other floor.
All SET sponsored events must be approved by the AC or RD.
Funds
RHET allocates funds for SET based on the number of residents on the floor.
All funds are obtained from Calvin Financial Services office through the
RHET Treasurer.
One SET member should be designated to keep record of balance of funds allocated for floor.
Resources
Food may be ordered through a Calvin Food Service “Retreat Order”. Contact 526-6393 or retreats@calvin.edu to order retreat food. If you provide student ID numbers, retreat meals cost under $1 per person.
All facilities are reserved through the Office of Conferences and Campus Events OCCE (x6280).
College vehicles are reserved through the AC or RD. Many times it is less expensive to reimburse residents on the floor for gas if they use their car for an event.
