A-G Requirements
If you are planning to attend a 4-year university like a Cal State University program, University of California program, or another 4-year university directly after earning your high school diploma from CAVA, you'll want to make sure you are enrolled in and passing with a letter grade of C or better to meet minimum requirements in the following courses:

A. History/Social Studies (2 years)
One year of world history, cultures or historical geography (may be a single yearlong course or two one-semester courses)
One year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of civics or American government
B. English (4 years)
Four years of college-preparatory English
C. Math (3-4 years)
One year of Algebra I
One year of Geometry
One year of Algebra II
Four years recommended.
D. Science (2 years)
One year of Biology
One year Chemistry or
* 3rd year recommended Physics
E. Language Other Than English (2-3 years)
All years must be the same language.
F. Visual and Performing Arts (1 year)
One yearlong course of visual and performing arts chosen from the following disciplines: dance, music, theater, visual arts or interdisciplinary arts — or two one-semester courses from the same discipline is also acceptable.
G. College Prep Elective (2-3 years)
One year (two semesters) Visual and Performing Arts, History, English, Social Science, advanced Math, Lab Science, languages other than English.
