At Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary School, we use a wide number of strategies to monitor and assess the wellbeing of all of our learners. Our Wellbeing Index Tracker is one of these tools and allows our pupils the opportunity to self-report their wellbeing in relation to five key areas, on a termly basis:
My feelings about school
Attitude towards learning
Relationships with others
Progress this year
Attendance
As you can see from the web on the first page, the pupils rate themselves from 1-5 in each of the five key areas, with the lowest possible score being 5 and the highest score being 25. To support the children when selecting their scores, there are supporting statements on the back, relating to the 1-5 scores. These statements are differentiated for pupils in Progression Step 1&2, as well as those in Progression Step 3. Our children also then have the opportunity to give further details about the ratings they have chosen, using the additional comments boxes for each area.
The children will be supported throughout the school by an adult and will work on a one-to-one or small group basis when filling out their scores. Scores are recorded and tracked throughout the year, which can help to identify any barriers to promoting our learners' wellbeing.
If you have any queries or would like to discuss the Wellbeing Index Tracker further, please contact Mr Smith on 01633 414904 or by email: smithn15@newportschools.wales

When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. And when our need for rewarding social connections is not met, we can sometimes feel isolated and lonely – which can have a negative impact on our mental health.
For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, we’re encouraging people to connect with others in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways.
