It has been a requirement since the commencement of the grant programme in 2012 that all schools in receipt of grant funding publish details of the grants received and how they are allocated. The purpose of publishing this information is to ensure that there is transparency around the spending of this grant and that this information is readily available to parents and other interested parties.
Schools in Wales receive a Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) to help tackle the effects of poverty on attainment, reduce inequality and remove barriers.
The total number of pupils on roll in September 2020 was 335 (including Nursery) The school’s FSM population (Free School Meals) in September 2020 was 47 which is 15.5% of pupils. This is higher than the percentage for the previous year.
The total allocation of PDG to Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary for April 2020 – March 2021 is £46,100 and Early Years PDG is £17,250
Employ teaching assistants to deliver intervention to vulnerable groups including those facing the challenge of poverty and deprivation. Literacy and Numeracy intervention groups are delivered in both Foundation Phase and KS2.
Teaching assistants deliver Silver SEAL groups to support social and emotional development of children
Employ teaching assistants to deliver Early Intervention programmes in Communication and Literacy
Employ ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) to work with vulnerable groups of children
Employ teaching assistant to develop Nurture Provision for vulnerable groups of pupils
Release a member of staff to take responsibility for the role of Parent Liaison, to work closely with parents to increase and improve parental engagement in matters such as attendance and attainment.
Cover the cost of external training courses for staff enabling staff to participate in high quality, current training related to areas outlined in SDP and National Mission
Non-contact time for review of Person Centred Profiles (PCPs)
Purchase of resources to enhance Literacy, Numeracy and Sensory play
The school’s Pupil Deprivation Grant plans are regularly scrutinised by the Governing Body, supported by advice from the EAS and monitored by the Local Authority
The Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams AM outlined in her statement Valuing our Teachers – Investing in their Excellence, the commitment of Welsh Government to develop a professional learning culture and infrastructure to ensure that curriculum reform becomes a reality and that a National approach to career long professional learning is created for all practitioners.
Schools receive a Professional Learning Grant that supports the professional learning of all staff.
Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary School currently employs
· 14 full-time and 2 part-time teachers
· 13 full-time teaching assistants and 1 part-time teaching assistant

The school undertakes the following activities in order to promote the professional development of all teaching staff:
· Opportunities to engage in regional activities to support the realisation of the revised Code of Practice
· Access to leadership programmes for middle leaders
· Access to cluster professional learning meetings for school’s Professional Learning Lead
· Opportunities for leaders to work collaboratively with cluster and triad schools
· Training opportunities and collaborative work for More Able and Talented coordinator (MAT)
· Opportunities for all staff to engage in action research linked to the new Curriculum for Wales
· Training opportunities for school’s well-being lead to develop all staff’s ability to support those pupils who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
· Welsh language training and development for staff

We know most learning will have been impacted in some form over recent months, with more significant impacts expected in vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.
During the crisis it is clear that many learners may not have progressed as much as they might in terms of their progress in learning, some having been impacted more seriously than others.
The ALP grant has been allocated to schools to close the gap for disadvantaged pupils, which may have widened during School closure.
The total allocation of ALP to Caerleon Lodge Hill Primary for April 2020 – March 2021 is £10,642
The school undertakes the following activities in order to address the impact of school closure on our most vulnerable learners
Employ an additional member of support staff to provide intervention activities in literacy, numeracy and health and well-being for targeted children either in class or in small groups.
To use additional teaching assistant to nurture the social and emotional development of vulnerable pupils
