General Education Courses
General education courses are preparatory courses for all high school students. These courses are content standards-aligned, meeting California state requirements, and preparing all students for college.
Honors Courses
Honors courses are more rigorous than general education courses, academically challenging, and accelerated. These courses push students to learn content at a more in-depth level. Further, honors courses can be a great way for students to prepare themselves if they would like to take the advanced placement level of the course. Teachers will have higher expectations from students, such as more preparation and studying for course projects, assignments, exams, and essays.
Advanced Placement Courses
Advanced placement courses are college-level and a College Board program. These courses are rigorous, expectations are for students to submit college-quality work and handle a higher assignment workload. For more information please see, the College Board website. AP courses may be taken in the following categories:
English
Social Sciences
Mathematics
Science
Visual and Performing Arts
Computer science
World languages and cultures
Depending upon university/college policy Students may earn college credit based on their standardized AP exam scores taken at the end of each school year.
