Expert teachers demonstrate professionalism in service both to students and to the profession. Teaching at the highest levels of performance in this component is student focused, putting students first regardless of how this stance might challenge long-held assumptions, past practice, or simply the easier or more convenient procedure. Accomplished teachers have a strong moral compass and are guided by what is in the best interest of each student. They display professionalism in a number of ways. For example, they conduct interactions with colleagues in a manner notable for honesty and integrity. Furthermore, they know their students’ needs and can readily access resources with which to step in and provide help that may extend beyond the classroom. Seeking greater flexibility in the ways school rules and policies are applied, expert teachers advocate for their students in ways that might challenge traditional views and the educational establishment. They also display professionalism in the ways they approach problem solving and decision making, with student needs constantly in mind. Finally, accomplished teachers consistently adhere to school and district policies and procedures but are willing to work to improve those that may be outdated or ineffective.

This is a letter that was written to my Mentor Teacher as well as my students to say goodbye and thank you for everything that I learned. This semester my Mentor Teacher and I had some difficulties interacting with each other. Regardless of the struggles that were had, I was able to communicate with her with respect and gratitude as I said my goodbyes. In my goodbye letter to the students I showed specific knowledge of students need by addressing their strong suits and providing encouragement for their future. I believe that this closed a door in a professional, kind and encouraging way for my students, mentor teacher and myself.
This is an Improvement plan that I created in my Early Field Practicum. The last box on this improvement plan, specifically addresses professional behavior. One way that I have been able to implement these professional changes is by arriving early. I especially worked hard on arriving early and ready this semester. I would leave 30 minutes before my class started and I would usually get their 15 minutes early. By doing this, I was prepared for class by being ready in my seat with a paper or word document open to write on. Another way I have grown professionally is by having my lesson better prepared for my lesson execution. As I started my educational career, I lacked the ability to have my lessons done on time. I have grown to be able to have thoroughly completed my lesson plans and have had opportunities for my mentor teacher as well as other education professionals to assist with implementing appropriate changes. I am excited to continue to make goals and plans to make any needed changes in the future!
