The use of the physical environment to promote student learning is a hallmark of an experienced teacher. Its use varies, of course, with the age of the students: in a primary classroom, centers and reading corners may structure class activities; while with older students, the position of chairs and desks can facilitate, or inhibit, rich discussion. Naturally, classrooms must be safe (no dangling wires or dangerous traffic patterns), and all students must be able to see and hear what’s going on so that they can participate actively. Both the teacher and students must make effective use of electronics and other technology.

During this lesson I had students engage in multiple movements throughout the classroom. The lesson started off with myself instructing the students to walk around the classroom. They were told to envision that they were on a stroll outside with their friends, the sun was setting, and it was starting to get a bit cold outside. As we walked around the classroom, I had students glance at the board when they would walk by it. I walked and guided the students as we walked around to make sure that students weren't distracted by their surroundings or running into things. Allowing students to walk around the classroom shows that I implemented a space for students to use their creativity as well as get outside of the traditional space of their table.
Students used many different spaces throughout this lesson to participate actively. The beginning of the lesson captured the student's attention by starting it off with an initial blast off into space. Students were told to sit in the front of the classroom and count off to a space shuttle blasting off into space using techniology to heighten their imagination. While the students were counting down, I was able to maneuver to the back of the class and turn the lights off. As soon as students realized they were in space, they were encouraged to look up and see the stars, moon and other planets in the sky. To continue active engagement students participated in another activity that required them to get out of their seats and walk around the classroom to try and understand what season they had been assigned to. I believe that using different resources in the classroom gives students the chance to stay engaged and excited throughout the lesson. This was clear to me throughout this lesson.
