A smoothly functioning classroom is a prerequisite to good instruction and high levels of student engagement. Teachers establish and monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and the efficient use of time. Hallmarks of a well-managed classroom are that instructional groups are used effectively, non-instructional tasks are completed efficiently, and transitions between activities and management of materials and supplies are skillfully done in order to maintain momentum and maximize instructional time. The establishment of efficient routines, and teaching students to employ them, may be inferred from the sense that the class “runs itself.”

This artifact contains parts of my first evaluation this semester that was observed by my Senior Practicum Instructor. I shared two components from Domain 2 and 3. Domain 2 lists observations that my Instructor saw the need for improvement on. She suggested that better transitions would impact students momentum and engagement in the classroom. I can use this feedback to make appropriate changes to use instructional time more effectively and efficiently. Domain 3 was listed because my instructor shared in that description some of the proceudres that I used. I started the class off in a instructive and engaging way. Students were told what the instructions were in a way that they wanted to participate and could manage their own behavior in a productive yet meaningful way.
This artifact is a website that I created in my Ed 211 class. The link to the website has tabs that are labeled Routines and Schedules and Instructional Strategies. In these tabs, I was given the task to design procedures that would promote the class to run operate smoothly and engage the minds of students. Underneath the tab Instructional Strategies, I have noted seated arrangements as one of my procedures. This shows my ability to create an instructional group for students to learn effectively. This also leads the class to be managed well. In this artifact, I exemplify the ability to create classroom procedures that help my students to maintain momentum on their educational journey. Throughout the course of my own educational journey, I have been able to use procedures in my practicum to ensure quality execution of instruction.
