In order for students to be able to engage deeply with content, the classroom environment must be orderly; the atmosphere must feel business-like and productive, without being authoritarian. In a productive classroom, standards of conduct are clear to students; they know what they are permitted to do and what they can expect of their classmates. Even when their behavior is being corrected, students feel respected; their dignity is not undermined. Skilled teachers regard positive student behavior not as an end in itself, but as a prerequisite to high levels of engagement in content.

In order to make sure that students were following the expectations that I had set out for them, I constructed a fun way for them to want to follow directions. At the beginning of the class, I explained that students were going to take part in solving a mystery. In order for students to solve the mystery they had to wear special glasses, but wearing them required special instructions. The instructions required students to be quiet and be respectful of students as well as the space around them. If students didn't follow instructions, then they were unable to solve the mystery. This activity was a great way for students to be excited, engaged and mindful of how their actions affect those around them.
This assignment was an opportunity to create a management plan on how I would handle different types of behavior. The management plans consists of 5 different steps. These steps include getting to know your students, classroom management, establishing procedures, working with students to develop self control strategies and the teachers response to student behavior. The last two steps that are included in this management plan, I consider to be the most important . These steps emphasize highly on working with the students to determine a growth plan and how I will handle particular behaviors in a beneficial way. This shows that I have the capability of identifying the problem, appropriately discussing with students what needs to change and creating a plan of how we are going to change it.
