November 6, 2025
Good Afternoon Parents and Families,
Our kick-off to Thankfulness Month in Kindergarten has been really fun. The Month of Thankful Thoughts Calendar has provided us with some great topics of conversation around gratitude and given us lots of reminders to be thankful for all of the good things all around us every day. I hope you’ve been able to look at it with your children at home as well and do some sharing as a family. Our first week of the food drive has been HUGE - I’m literally running out of space in the classroom to store all of the donations! I’ll be so curious to see how much it weighs tomorrow at our first drop-off - I’ll keep you posted!! Thank you to all who’ve participated so far! There is a lot happening in the coming weeks so make sure to take a look at the upcoming dates and announcements section.
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Kindly,
Lauren and Valerie
Classroom Learning and Happenings
We have just finished up our study of early American Presidents and United States symbols. We are diving into our study of Native Americans, Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. This unit will begin with our Kindergarten Thankfulness Food Drive in support of EFAA (see details below). We will be talking in great depth about thankfulness and the connection that holds to the significance of Thanksgiving as a national holiday. Students have had fun hearing names such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln carried over into this unit as we talk about the freedoms that the Pilgrims were seeking and the continued importance of the abolition of slavery. We will wrap up this unit by hosting Pumpkin Pie and Poems with Parents, which is a cross-curricular culmination of thankfulness and poem writing.
Kindergarten Thankfulness Food Drive - Beginning the first week of November through the Thanksgiving holiday break, kindergarten will be sponsoring a school-wide food drive for EFAA (Emergency Family Assistance Association), a local nonprofit organization serving children and families in Boulder County. Please check out this link for more information. There will also be a flyer in today’s Thursday Folder, so please be on the lookout!
PUMPKIN PIE AND POEMS WITH PARENTS - Please join us on Wednesday, November 19th from 1:30 to 2:30 in the cafeteria to celebrate Thankfulness Month with poetry with pumpkin pie! Students will be performing a song and will share the poems they’ve written and illustrated. Please arrive by 1:30 so as not to miss their performance!
STONE SOUP - We have been reading Folktales in class over the past week and learning about the lessons that these stories teach. We’ll wrap up the unit by making Stone Soup together on Monday, November 17th. If you would like to contribute an ingredient to our soup, please sign up here Harmon Hibl
