We are so excited to begin another wonderful year of kindergarten and are looking forward to getting to know your children. In Kindergarten at High Peaks, our focus is on building a strong classroom community and helping our young learners become explorers and problem-solvers in a space where they feel safe and secure. Our classroom community includes you, as parents and guardians, and we hope to build a strong partnership with you, as we know that you are your children's biggest fans and strongest advocates.
Hello High Peaks Kindergarten Families!
My name is Lauren Harmon and being a kindergarten teacher is where my heart lies. This is my sixth year teaching kindergarten here at High Peaks and prior to that I was the literacy specialist in the school.
Getting to Kindergarten was a journey through the ages for me as I began my teaching career as a high school language arts teacher. It wasn't until I began my Masters Degree program in Literacy and Curriculum Development in K-12 Education at CU Denver that I discovered my love of elementary education. In pursuing my degree, I spent several years doing practicum work in elementary schools and it was a revelation - I'd finally found my teaching bliss! Kindergarten is an age of incredible discoveries for children and I'm so excited to be a part of making them happen for young students.
My husband and I moved to Colorado 23 years ago and have been in Boulder for 16 years. I have three children, Cooper (23 - just graduated from University of Oregon and is applying to medical schools), Caroline (21 - a senior at CSU), and Oliver (19 - a a freshman at Montana State University). I also have a sweet chocolate lab named Ruby who loves to play and go for loooooong walks! We love to spend time in the mountains hiking and skiing but we are also a big beach family, needing our ocean fix a few times a year.
I look forward to working with all of you and building a wonderful, positive learning community together!
Hello Kindergarten Families! My name is Valerie Hibl, and I am thrilled to welcome you all to Kindergarten at High Peaks!
This year will be my fifth year at High Peaks and my 16th year working with young children. Before becoming a teacher in BVSD, I worked as a Preschool teacher, curriculum coordinator, Assistant Director at a Primrose school, and a long-term substitute within BVSD. I grew up outside of Boulder and graduated from BVSD schools. Having the chance to come back to where it all began is a dream come true.
When I am not spending time in the classroom, I am enjoying time with my daughters (Melody- 5 yrs., Lily-3yrs., and Ivy- 6 months), my husband, and our sweet dog, Guinness. We love playing cards with our family, camping, and spending time at the lake!
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado and currently hold a license in both Elementary and Culturally Linguistically Diverse Education. I am finishing up my last leg at Colorado Christian University, where I will be receiving a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (K-12).
I look forward to meeting all of you and working together to build an amazing community and partnership!
