Meet Mrs. Sorbo

It's more than singing songs! The Emerald music program is based on a philosophy called Orff-Schulwerk. Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman created an approach to building musicianship in every learner through the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama. We sing, dance, play, experience, imitate, explore and create every day in music class. Students have an opportunity to experience music in a variety of ways, while expanding their understanding of music in the world. Mrs. Sorbo holds a B.A.in Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN; Masters Degree in Music Education (with an emphasis in horn & brass pedagogy) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a Masters Degree in Leadership for Educational Organizations from the University of Colorado at Denver. This is Mrs. Sorbo's 12th year teaching at Emerald. Prior to arriving at Emerald she taught middle school band in Colorado and North Dakota.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If a child hears fine music from the day of their birth, and learns to play it themselves, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart." -Shinichi Suzuki
