About Mrs. Walter

First and foremost, I love working with teenagers. My hope is to bring my 25 years of high tech sales and marketing into the classroom to provide you a practical understanding of the professional world. We all work for businesses, no matter what trade or interest you have for your future. I have kids your age and I know how hard it can be to figure out what comes after high school. You have so much going on with jobs, friends, school, and extra curricular activities. I aim to be a bright spot in your day and help build you up while you are at BHS and after.

Course Options for 2024-25 School Year

All of the Broomfield High School Business Classes are concurrent enrollment courses with Front Range Community College, which means you get college credit in high school. Don't let that scare you! The classes are appropriate for all Broomfield students. They are also weighted classes, which means they are great for boosting a GPA. I don't like to give homework, so you will experience very little out of class work. As long as you show up and stay engaged while in class, you shouldn't take much home. Lastly, staying engaged is easy because I believe in a highly gamified approach to learning. Learning will be interactive, fun, social, and 100% applicable to your life. In fact, all of these classes meet the practical experience, financial management, and math capstone requirements for graduation. This is a place where ALL BHS students belong.

Intro to Business

This course is the best entry point, or first option, for business classes and is appropriate for Freshman through Seniors. This class is great for understanding a little about how free market economies work, helps you learn how businesses are structured and classified, and learn about the various internal departments such as operations, supply chain, sales, marketing, finance, accounting, and human resources. The in-class economy allows you to earn money through the gamified learning that you can spend in the cafe and in auctions!

Principles of Management

This course will take you through how companies are planned, organized, staffed, directed, and controlled. This is the class where you will learn how to make a business plan, organize a business to be successful, how to interview and hire people, and how to lead those people to success. The gamified approach to learning continues in Principles of Management as well as the in-class economy to earn and spend money in the class cafe and auctions.

Personal Finance

This course may be causing a little confusion based on the course catalog released. We will still be offering Personal Finance! Personal Finance is a student favorite.... and if I'm honest this one is also a blast to teach! This course will teach you what you need to be financially independent. We cover bank accounts, budgeting, saving, getting jobs, buying cars, renting apartments, buying houses, loans, credit, investing, taxes and more. You will live out a simulated adult financial life in this class complete with class jobs and fake bank accounts. Come learn how to be a millionaire! Your sim paycheck can be used for many real things including, couch passes, cafe items, dropped grades, and Life Happens redraws...... don't know what that is...... go ask a friend that has taken this class. This class is also sort of famous for Quiz Show Wednesday.... again..... ask a friend.

Entrepreneurship

More info coming soon, but the key things to know about this one is that it is a year long class combining Intro to Entrepreneurship and Marketing for the Entrepreneur AND that we will be running the Broomfield Swag Shop. You will learn to be an Entrepreneur by running a real local business right out of room 737. We will manufacture tumblers, t shirts, mugs and more. In addition, we will source and procure 3rd party goods from wholesalers and resell them in our vending machine in the cafeteria. If you are interested in accounting, marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, or all of the above you can choose the skills you want to focus on and learn. Come be a budding entrepreneur and learn how it is done! You should finish this year long course with a comprehensive understanding of what goes into running your own business. This class is worth 2 college classes(6 college credits).

Principles of Marketing

Principles of Marketing is a fun class focused on the roles and responsibilities of a marketing department. You will learn how marketing departments identify trends and determine gaps in the market in which they can introduce new products. How do companies decided how and where to sell their products, what should the price be, and how should they advertise and promote the products. What will the brand stand for and what does the brand's voice sound like. And of course, no modern marketing plan is complete without a digital presence, eCommerce, and a dash of Social Media. You will practice being a marketer by creating your own Oreo flavor and get your executives to choose your concept! In-class economy is used in Marketing for food treats and more.

Social Media for Business

This class will teach you the strategic approach to Social Media marketing. What should you post, why, when, and how to cross market with influencers and utilize various social media channels. Learn the difference between social media users and what a social media marketer does to represent a brand's voice. Viral Tik Toks abound here!
