In PE-
BCE students' first week of PE consisted of teamwork, sportsmanship, and trying our best! These three pillars are the framework of BCE PE. Students warmed up each day with our “4 Corner Warm Up”, which includes different movements/exercises each day. The goal of this activity is to educate students on proper form and introduce a diverse range of dynamic movements that can help them stay active and fit now and in the future. 1st-5th graders played a team challenge game called Hula Hut Relays, another called Dot on Head, and one more called Human Knot, where they worked together to literally pull themselves out of a human knot! A fan favorite was a game called Crazy Cone Challenge; if you have ever tried to flip your water bottle and stick it, you would love this game! In addition, students raced in Team Relays and ended the week with an invasion game called Capture the Donut.
Our kinders traveled a lot! We worked hard on locomotor movements, also known as traveling movements, such as walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, and leaping. I was very impressed with their skipping ability, which can be rather tricky! These kiddos enjoyed games such as Hula Hoop Twister, Locomotor Magic Tag, and Helicopters.

Bear Creek 1st-5th graders compete in the Fastest Class Challenge three times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) They work as a class to run as many laps as they can in 5 minutes. We then find their average lap per kid and measure it against the other classes.
Congratulations to Mrs. Hawks class who not only won as the fastest class in the school, but they also set a new Bear reek record of 17.3 average laps per student! Results can be found below.
In PE- Students worked on striking with a paddle/racquet these past two weeks. 2nd-5th graders practiced a lot of underhand serving, because in Badminton, serves are only permitted below the rib cage. Many students served forehand and some backhand, but all were rocking those birdies! We played a game called patterns, survivor, 4 square and finished the week with doubles play. In K-1st, students worked on their underhand serves as well. They played lots of games with skill work and some of their favorites were money maker, pop it, birdies in a nest and lollipop paddle battle! K & 1st even experimented with birdies on the last day and were highly successful in making those birdies fly!
Did you know? Badminton is one of the most popular sports in the world, with an estimated 339 million people playing it. According to ESPN.com, badminton is second to soccer in participation worldwide. In particular, Badminton has a huge popularity in Asia, where seven of the ten most badminton-playing countries are. It officially became an Olympic sport in 1992 at the Barcelona games.

Students practiced skills early on in the week during our hockey stations. They then used those skills in games like The very hungry caterpillar, pirate hockey, pin knockdown, 4 goal hockey and ended the week with a round robin tournament. All students helped us finish up our Hockey unit with a visit from the Avalanche Youth Development group. They provided students with instruction and lots of fun! In addition, they donated hockey sticks, balls and pop up goals. GO AVS!
Today concludes our gymnastics unit! Students worked hard over the past few weeks controlling, moving and positioning their bodies in new and different ways. Students spent their time tumbling, balancing, jumping/landing, and climbing! It was a ton of fun. Check out our PE website for more pictures of students in class

Throwing and catching is one of the best activities and can be played anywhere! The ability to use your eyes and hands simultaneously has many benefits! Hand-eye coordination can be tricky when kids are younger, but with practicing they can improve quickly! BCE students practiced hard during our catching and throwing unit these past few weeks! Our younger students practiced underhand throwing with a “lower case l” and worked on their overhand throw with an “uppercase L” - have them show you at home. Students played numerous throwing games this week in conjunction with Monster Ball, Mat Ball, Battleship, and Perfect Pass. We ended the week with one of our favorite Halloween throwing games- 👻 “Ghostly Pumpkins.”

Students have been working hard using their feet during our kicking unit. For our younger students not using hands posed a large challenge, but by the end of the week they had it figured out! They enjoyed using their skills they worked on in games like crab soccer, corner ball and sideline soccer. For our older students, there was a high level of competitiveness that I just loved watching. 4 goal soccer is always a hit along fruit loop tag, skill stations and a round robin tournament at the end of the week. We also touched on the sport of Sepak Takraw. I encourage you to check out this video of this fast paced volleyball-like foot game that originated in SouthEast Asia, it's a ton of fun! At the start of the school year we start by talking about community and cooperation. Students got to know each other with some ice breakers in PE with a fun game called "dice breakers" and "crazy card challenge". They worked together to figure out how to cross a river with their team using limited resources. We also played some classic team games like 4 way capture the donut, flag tag, hoop it up and crazy cone flip challenge. Kindergarten and first grade worked hard on their loco motor movements and movement concepts.
