(Student Assistance Program)
A Student Assistance Program (SAP) team operates at each of the schools in Burrell School District. Each team is comprised of nurses, administrators, guidance counselors, general education teachers, special education teachers and a SAP liaison who is employed by Westmoreland Case Management and Supports, Inc. (WCSI) and provides a direct link to county resources.
SAP is a systematic team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning. The SAP team can receive referrals from teachers, principals, counselors, parents, or students themselves. When a referral is received, the team works collaboratively to connect the student and family to resources like family supports, case management, behavioral assistance, mental health services, or drug and alcohol treatment, among others. Also, the team may consider school based interventions for the student.
