Burrell School District is committed to providing educational opportunities to learn about the harms of substance abuse and other dangerous behaviors. The district partners with the St Vincent College Prevention Project and the Lower Burrell Police Department to provide innovative, evidence based programs as a comprehensive approach to preventing substance use and smoking.
The research based Realistic Education About Life (R.E.A.L.) program is used in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Visiting instructors from St Vincent College provide the six lessons throughout the school year
The critically acclaimed Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program is used in 5th and 6th grades. The district school resource officer (SRO) from the Lower Burrell Police Department provides the lessons throughout the school year.
The evidence based program Too Good For Drugs is used in 4th and 8th grades. Visiting instructors from St Vincent College provide the six lessons throughout the school year.
