(Multi Tiered System of Supports)
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is a framework of interventions and supports designed to address behavioral and academic challenges in an effort to enhance academic, behavioral and social-emotional outcomes for ALL students. Rather than "waiting for failure", MTSS aims to provide a proactive approach to supporting students and their needs. Key components of MTSS include:
Universal screening of all students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
School wide approach to expectations and supports
Parent involvement
MTSS uses three tiers of support to assist all students at various levels:
Tier 1 = Universal or core instruction.
Tier 2 = Targeted or strategic instruction/intervention
Tier 3 = Intensive instruction/intervention
