What a jam-packed and exciting Term 5 we’ve had in Year 1! It’s been full of hands-on learning, new experiences and impressive progress from all of our wonderful children.
One of the highlights of this term was our two brilliant workshops. The first was when the children became engineers for the day- designing and building their own vehicles using cardboard boxes, child-safe saws, screwdrivers, and screws. The creativity and teamwork on display were fantastic, and it was lovely to see the children so engaged in practical problem-solving. We also had a fantastic trip to the Royal Engineers Museum, where we explored connections to our learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole- two inspiring figures who made a huge impact during the Crimean War. This visit really brought our history topic to life and sparked lots of thoughtful discussion. Academically, the children have truly blossomed this term. We’ve seen a huge leap in their independence, especially in their writing. They are becoming more confident in expressing their ideas and taking great pride in their work. Reading has been a key focus for us, particularly in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check next term. The children have been working hard to remember their sounds, and we are so proud of the progress they’ve made. Their enthusiasm for reading is a joy to see. Another proud moment for us this term was seeing both Year 1 classes perform their assemblies. The children read fantastically, spoke clearly and confidently, and really enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you to all the families who came to support them-it meant so much to the children and to us!
Thank you once again for your continued support. It makes such a difference, and we truly appreciate all you do. We’re looking forward to another exciting and successful term ahead in Term 6!
Wishing you a restful and happy break.
