Dear Parents/Carers,
What a busy week to finish term! Term 5 is always a very busy term, with many pupils taking part in various assessments, but we managed to continue to include lots of opportunities for learning in other aspects of the curriculum as well. School attendance for the year so far is unfortunately below our target of 95%- with consistent great attendance next term, hopefully we can hit our target, but it will require everyone being in school on a daily basis. Thank you for ensuring we are able to give your children the best chance of success by having them in school on time, every day.
As a school we are committed to providing a wide range of opportunities across the curriculum, particularly with a focus on the Arts. We often look for new experiences for the children, and children in all year groups will get a chance to take part in some drama and arts workshops in the first few weeks back next term. We will share some of their creations in our next newsletter!
All that remains is to wish you all an enjoyable, restful half-term break. Summer will have well and truly arrived by the start of next term, and I’m really looking forward to all the exciting activities planned for the children. Enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday 2nd June.
Mr Murphy
During the Easter break, year two families were invited to take part in a story writing competition. They could re tell a well known story in their own words or create something entirely original. All of the entries were amazing and it was lovely to see that families had come together to explore their creativity. It was incredibly hard for us to choose three winners! All entries received a certificate and three prize winners took home a family treats hamper and a voucher for something to enjoy together such as a cheeky Nandos.
Our three winning stories were written by:
Sara and her family
Reuben and his family
Scarlett and her family
Well done to everyone that entered. We hope you enjoyed working together and seeing the amazing progress your child has made this year.
Over the past 2 terms Kikumon Martial Arts have been building on their skills to prepare for their summer graduation. They have been working on precision of techniques, increasing their terminology knowledge and continuing to work on their accuracy when delivering techniques. Our quote this term has been: "Be fierce, but kind. Strong, but gentle,. Powerful, but humble. Karate is not about being better than someone else, it's about being better than you were the day before"
At Burnt Oak, we were delighted to take part in Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday 8th May. It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to step outside the classroom and enjoy hands-on, meaningful learning in the fresh air.
Throughout the day. Pupils engaged in a variety of exciting activities designed to deepen their understanding of key topics while connecting with the world around them. Some children explored the concept of time by forming a human clock-standing in a circle and holding number cards to bring the idea of telling time to life in a memorable and interactive way. Additionally, some children also took their science learning outside, carrying out an experiment to investigate different materials. The children tested how far balls made of various materials would bounce, encouraging prediction, observation, and recording of results in a fun and engaging environment. Lastly, Some children embraced technology outdoors, using our new iPads to draw pictures inspired by the sights and sounds of nature.
We are incredibly proud to offer our children the chance to learn beyond the classroom walls. Outdoor learning plays a vital role in education, supporting wellbeing, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
