Pre-Production

What is Pre-Production?

In short, Pre-Production is typically everything you do before you're ready to record or "produce". Pre-Production, "pre-pro" is the foundation and building blocks of your project. It includes early brainstorming and conceptualization of your project, outlining your project's structure, drafting a script and/or storyboard of how things should sound and look, and then scheduling and arranging any and all people, places and pieces you need to efficiently produce your media project. Pre-pro is fundamentally the most important stage of your project's process and it is important that you communicate things clearly and collaboratively with your partners.

Pre-pro may take the longest amount of time in the span of your project, but it's also important to note that this phase can also be the most creative. Throughout your pre-pro process, it is unequivocally important and beneficial to get other's feedback and to review, and potentially revise every important element throughout your planning process.
