Physical Geography

The physical geography of Panama is forested volcanic areas, mountains stretched from the Costa Rican border to the border of South America. Some mountain ranges are the Central Mountains, San Blas, Talamanca, and Tabasara. Beaches in Panama turn into wooded lowlands that escalate into the foothills of inland mountain ranges. In the east, it is not very populated land with rain forests, rivers, swampy lowlands, surrounded by high mountain peaks. The Darian Gap, next to the border of Columbia, is an unwelcoming and almost impassable thick jungle. The northern coastlines is surrounded by many small islands that create the Bocas Del Torro and San Blas Archipelago. There are numerous rivers that are in Panama, but there are mostly small ones. Some of the bigger rivers are the Charges, Chepo, Santa Maria and Turia rivers.

Population

In Panama, there is a population of 3,990,405 million people. There is about the same amount of males and females. There are more younger people than elderly, and the population is still growing so, there will probably be even more younger people in the future.

Tourism

About two million tourists visit Panama in a year. One tourist attraction is the Panama Canal. It is a man made waterway that connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. People can go through the whole crossing or a part of the canal, and the crossings takes about 4 to 8 hours. Many people go to the Miraflores Locks Museum to explore the canal. There are restaurants on the top floor of the building and people can can watch vessels go through the canal.

Environment & Agriculture

Agricultural jobs hire so many Panamanians, because a lot of the farmers only produce enough for their families to eat. Agricultural products are the country's main exports. About half of the land in Panama is used for agricultural use.

Some of the most important environmental concerns, is soil erosion. Air pollution is also a problem in big cities, which is due to industries and transportation. The nation’s fish resources are in danger of water pollution. Some endangered species are the red-backed squirrel monkey, tundra peregrine falcon, American crocodile, and some different kinds of sea turtles.

Wildlife

Some animals that live in Panama are jaguars, green iguana, two and three toed sloths, different types of monkeys, pumas, poisonous snakes, anteaters, and deer.

Arts/Culture/Language

Arts- Many of the countries folkloric traditions come from the central region. The Azuero Peninsula is Panama’s heartland and the best known styles of music and dances originate there. Some instruments that they play are guitars, drums, and an instrument played by running a stick over carved notches. And they have a big rock scene there.

Culture- There are many different races in this small area. People in Panama focus on their immediate family first. Their culture is of limited trust, dating back hundreds of years. When they are out in public Panamanians are worried about how they dress and smell. They are never really stressed out, because in their minds there is always time to get things done. People in Panama love big meals rarely without rice and are big meat eaters.

Language- The official language in Panama is Spanish and is what most people speak in the country. Some other people speak English, Bilingual, Buglere, and Yue.
