Over the course of this semester, the class will be looking at the roles of volunteers in a community, searching for voluntary positions and , will be participating with volunteering in our school and our community. Throughout this process, students are required to log their volunteer hours and reflect on their work, in an online journal.
Students are required to volunteer for a total of 15 hours at an approved volunteer position either in the school or within the community. These hours must be done during your CALM class (period 7 and 8) or after school hours. These hours cannot be part of a current program you are involved in. ex) Youth Groups are volunteering to help serve food at the Pumpkin Festival.
Since you have already developed a website that contains your school work for CALM, and possibly other classes, you will need to add a new page to your site, that will be used for journaling your progress. Journaling is to be done daily and will outline the following information:
For every day that you volunteer, an evaluation form must be completed by those that are overseeing your work. These can be picked up in Mrs. Munro's class or can be printed off. These evaluation forms must be handed into Mrs. Munro, weekly for inspection and then placed in your journal record book or scanned to be added to your online journal.
A letter has been sent to all staff in our school, requesting their assistance in helping to find volunteer locations for students in CALM class. If you have already received credit for CCS 1080: Community Volunteerism 1, then you will be exempt from having to participate in this portion of the class.
After the volunteers have been given a classroom to assist in, those who do not have a place to work will need to find other ways to volunteer their time. Examples: Coaching extra curricular activities (volleyball, hockey, figure skating, etc.) If there is a volunteering position you have always wanted to be part of, please speak to me so that I can see about arranging this.
After each of your volunteerism opportunities, you are to blog on one of these topics, in numerical order. In EVERY post, you must include the following:
Daily Topics:
2. Motivation
3. Career Awareness
4. Health and Wellness
5. Characteristics of Volunteering
6. Volunteerism Skills
7. Safety, Rules and....why do I have rules if I am volunteering?
