Dan Miller is the instructor of saxophone and the director of the Harpur Studio Jazz Band at Binghamton University. He has studied saxophone with April Lucas, Dr. Ronald Caravan, Joe Riposo, Dr. Steven Mauk and Dr. Jamal Rossi. Miller has performed with the Syracuse Society for New Music, the Binghamton Philharmonic, the national musical tours of “Chicago” and “Beautiful – the Carole King Musical” and with a wide variety of performers including Frankie Valli, Martha Reeves, Les Elgart, Ann Hampton Callaway, and Sherrie Maricle. He regularly freelances on saxophone, flute, and clarinet throughout Central New York, and is a member of the Southern Tier Concert Band, the Empire Saxophone Quartet, the Finger Lakes Saxophone Quartet, and the Binghamton based commercial band Rooster and the Roadhouse Horns.
In addition to his work at Binghamton, Miller serves on the faculty of SUNY Broome and has also taught at Syracuse University. He retired from the Spencer-Van Etten School District in 2024 following a 34-year career as a public-school music educator. He is active as a band director for the American Music Abroad Red Tour and has conducted concerts in England, Finland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. He is also the assistant director for the Vestal High School Marching Band and has received multiple awards from the National Band Association, including the Outstanding Jazz Educator Award in 2018 and a Citation of Excellence for his work with the Spencer-Van Etten high school band in 2024. Miller regularly appears as a guest soloist, conductor and clinician throughout New York state and Pennsylvania.
He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree with Performance Honors from Syracuse University and a Master of Music Education degree from Ithaca College.

I am a professional saxophonist and experienced music educator and am available to perform solo concerts and demonstrations and/or to work with your school band or jazz band in any way that you see fit. I've done assemblies and lectures on jazz and saxophone history, served as a clinician with high school and middle school bands, and been a guest soloist with a variety of schools.
