Cells
Students investigate cells as the basic building blocks of all living things. They learn about the types of cells and their structures and functions. The differences of the cells of organisms and how they are sometimes used to classify them into groups is researched and how cells keep the organism they belong to alive. Cellular division is explored and how this is used for growth and repair.
The human body
Students develop an understanding of human body systems by looking closely at the organs, cells and functions of the circulatory, respiratory and digestive system. Students will show growth in knowledge by creating a body diagram at the start of their unit. Workshop tasks and student conversations will complement a unit test to assess their skills and understanding of the human body.
