June 2, 2025
Greetings, BHS students, families and community. This is the final newsletter for the 2024-2025 school year. Most of our big events are behind us, and now we look forward to our YES Presentations of Learning on June 11, and Commencement on June 12. More details on both below.
Last Wednesday, we hosted our Annual BHS Academic Awards Night. Thank you to all the students and families (and staff!) in attendance. We had a great turnout to celebrate our students' academic, artistic and all-around excellence. I feel deeply fortunate to be a member of such a wonderful learning community; so many of our students are not only incredibly talented, but also humble, gracious, and full of integrity. It was an honor to set aside an evening to recognize them.
As a reminder, we follow a different schedule during our YES learning days:
YES Program Schedule (May 29 - June10)
8:00-9:20 Credit Recovery
9:30-11:30 Morning YES Session
11:30-12:15 Lunch
12:15-2:15 Afternoon YES Session
2:20-3:30 Credit Recovery
The Presentation of Learning, on June 11, is one of our favorite days of the year, with students presenting and viewing one another's presentations, in multiple sessions throughout the day:
Presentation of Learning Schedule (June 11)
9:00-9:15 – All Students and Staff report to Morning YES
9:20 – 9:45 – Session 1
9:55 – 10:20 – Session 2
10:30 – 10:55 – Session 3
11:00– 11:40 – Lunch
11:45 – 12:10 – Session 4
12:20 – 12:45 – Session 5
12:55 – 1:20 – Session 6
Please remember, on the morning of June 12 we will be hosting Graduation Rehearsal (required) for our seniors at UVM Patrick Gym, and a half day at DtBHS (11:30 early release) for our 9th-11th graders. That morning will include an advisory scavenger hunt and trivia competition for prizes. Graduation is June 12 from 3-4:30, at Patrick Gym.
We know it can be hard to keep track of all these unusual schedules, especially in the end-of-year haze of June. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the school if you have any questions. We will also send out reminders about our schedules via email and text, to help you keep the details straight and ensure your child does not miss essential activities and obligations.
As always, thank you for your support, and for a great year. It's been my pleasure to serve you and BHS, and I'm already looking forward to '25-'26. In the meantime, I wish you all a fun, restful and healthy summer break!
With appreciation,
Sabrina Westdijk
The YES Presentation of Learning is a time for students to share their learning with their peers and BHS staff. Attendance on June 11 is required to earn full YES credit.
To celebrate a great year and end with some fun, BHS will be hosting a final half day for our 9th-11th grade students on June 12, featuring, competitions and prizes.
Join us to celebrate our seniors as they start a new chapter. For more information, please review our Graduation FAQ Sheet 2025.
To ensure your student’s final transcript is delivered to their selected college/university by July 1, please ensure your student completes the BSD Class of 2025 Post-Graduation Path Survey.
The 2025 edition of the BHS Yearbook is now available for purchase from Jostens.com through June. It will be completed next school year and be available for pick up in spring of 2026. Please email oread@bsdvt.org with any questions.
For those who ordered a 2024 edition, the staff is finishing it up, and it will be available for pickup at BHS this summer.
At the BHS Academic Awards Night, Principal Sabrina Westdijk named Ms. Jory Hearst, English Teacher, as our 2025 Teacher of the Year (featured in the photo). Ellen Wollensack, our long-time library assistant, was named as our 2025 Paraeducator of the Year. You can read the speeches shared at the awards here. Congratulations to these two outstanding educators!
Congratulations to the following students in the class of 2025 and 2026 who were inducted into the Green Mountain Chapter of the National Honor Society on May 21, 2025.

Another amazing BCL semester is in the books! We are so proud of all the BCL14 students and their growth over the past few months.
Check out some of our recent experiences–unveiling our collaborative mural on Church Street, learning about fashion and sustainability, and exploring the interconnectedness of land and water- on our blog.
We still have spaces for students to apply to BCL for next year. Students can find the application here!
