The Three Pillars of Musical Excellence
Connecting the bridges from elementary and into high school, building a caring community of students who share a passion for music and learning
Maintaining standards of excellence in creating, responding, and connecting to music, to tell a story through performance
Support and enrichment for every student, including tutorials, off-campus trips, Chamber Choir, and honor choirs
Working Together To Build the Hill!
In elementary school, your student explored music through the voice and musical instruments. At RHMS, they begin to specialize their interests in Chorus (voice), Band (wind, brass, and percussion instruments), and Orchestra (string instruments).
Middle school music is the beginning of a pathway for your student, as they can take courses in their area(s) for all three grades and into high school. Having a classroom to call your academic "home" for life is the reason I joined Chorus and chose to become a Chorus teacher!
Chorus, as with the other music areas at RHMS, is a year-long course and commitment. We do have after-school evening concerts to ensure they are free and open to the public without disrupting school and business hours.
With our A/B schedule, classes meet every other day. It is very easy to forget what you learned two days ago, so students must practice their skills every day at home to be ready for the next class and concert. Just 15 minutes a day reviewing practice files in Google Classroom makes a huge difference.
There is no Chorus without 'us'. Music ensembles are much like sports teams - the success of the ensemble is a result of the shared success of each individual student. We celebrate, sometimes fail, figure things out, and celebrate again together. As a parent, YOU are part of that WE as well! When we all commit and work together to support student success, we Build the Hill to thrive!
