LGPE stands for Large Group Performance Evaluation. Every school subject has standards for what is to be taught. Chorus is no exception. For the academic classes, students’ knowledge of these standards is evaluated by the Georgia Milestones. For chorus, they’re evaluated at LGPE.
Choirs prepare 2 songs (one from a specified list and one of the director’s choosing). They perform these songs for an adjudicator. It isn’t a competition, though. The adjudicator rates the choirs on how well they meet the standards for pitch, rhythm, pronunciation, expression, balance, and more. Then the choirs have to sight-read, where they also get rated on their ability to read music at sight according to the standards.
Each choir is then assigned a rating from 1 (exceeds standards) to 5 (does not meet standards).
LGPE is done during the school day at an off-campus facility where all of the choirs in an area go on the same series of days. All choruses participate in LGPE.
