Today, while measuring the plants a lot of observations were made. It was noticed early on that the wild type plants were thriving better when compared to the other groups. The wild type rosettes are rounder than the mutants. The mutant plants had a vibrant green color and the wild type plants were not as vibrant. The mutant experimental plants were growing better than the wild type experimental plants.Â
The observations from Day 13 and today are consistent. The mutant pots had more trichomes on the rosettes and the sprouting bolts. All of the wild type plants had mold growing on the soil, but it was noticed that the experimental groups had more mold on the soil in general when compared to the control groups. The wild type control group was the first to bolt.
Today, the plants were measured and the wild type's rosette leaves appear fuller. They are taller and have more bolts. The mutant groups' rosettes are an oval shape. The wild type control and mutant experimental are the only ones that have grown bolts. Mutant groups have more trichomes than any other group. Mold continues to grow on the experimental groups' soil.
After comparing the results from the past 24 days, it is clear that the wild type group is excelling far better than any other group. The wild type controls have the most bolts. Wild types in general have had the most growth. However, the mutant groups' bolts appear to be growing thicker and stronger.
Today, it was clear that the plants are reaching the end of their lifespan. The wild type groups are turning brown, but they are bigger than the rest. Mutant groups continue to have thicker bolts. It was observed that the mutants produced less seed pods.
Today is the last day of the experiment. The plants are noticeably dying. Most are brown and dried out. At this stage, handling the plants carefully is necessary because they are releasing seeds everywhere. They were measured for the last time and put in a trash bag to mail to Virginia Tech. There, they will burn the plants to ensure they are destroyed.
