The Italian Renaissance was a new age full of new inventors, innovators, and artists. Developed in the 1600s, the microscope and barometer were crucial and impactful in the advancement of science around the world. Revolutionizing medicine, science, and meteorology. As found in the Italian Renaissance.
The first simple microscope made by Roger Bacon was made by putting a magnifying lens in a tube with a stage for the specimen allowing for magnification. One of the many impacts of the microscope was new discoveries that were able to be made. Scientists like Hooke and Leeuwenhoek made discoveries about cells and bacteria using the microscope. According to The Origin of The Microscope and History of Microscopes.
The development of the barometer by Torcelli began around the 1600s. The first barometer was made out of mercury with a glass tube with mercury in it and Torricelli discovered that the air’s weight supported the mercury, allowing for the measurement of air pressure to happen. One impact of the barometer is the ability to predict the weather based on the measured atmospheric pressure. As mentioned in Mercury Barometer.
The microscope not only impacted people in the Italian Renaissance, it also still impacts the world today. Joseph Jackson Lister and Richard Zsigmondy modified the simple microscope to make the image produced clearer and for there to be a light while viewing the specimens. Without these modifications scientists today would not be able to use the microscope reliably. The microscope has greatly enhanced modern medicine, allowing scientists and doctors to research and diagnose diseases. Based on Microscopes in Healthcare and History of Microscopes .
The barometer also impacts the world today. Professionals in meteorology use the barometer to measure the atmospheric pressure and predict weather patterns. Without the barometer families would not be able to rely on the ability to plan things weeks in advance. Another impact of the barometer is that now that we can measure atmospheric pressure we now know what different pressures can do to the human body. As found in First Measurement of Barometer Pressure and Mercury Barometer.
