How parents can help at home:
Making sure your child has a set morning and evening routine. These routines will help your child form good habits and ensure they’re getting enough sleep. This will benefit your family as well!
Reading together every day (weekends too!)
Asking open ended questions will welcome richer conversations into your home. I suggest sitting down together as a family for meals without screens.
Building background knowledge increases reading comprehension and makes them a better writer. Family trips, novel experiences, helping in the house, asking questions, reading, volunteering, are all ways to build a student’s background knowledge.
Help your student learn time management and organiziaton. This is extremely helpful for understanding systems, making connections, and makes life easier!
Something to keep in mind is being a good role model for your student. Kids notice everything from the way you talk about other people, what language you use, the habits you have, what you eat, how often you read or check your phone, etc.
