With the closure of nursing facilities and ALFs to visitors, many older adults may be suffering in isolation. In addition, there are school-aged children who have been forced to stay home and abandon their education while our community tries to battle Coronavirus Disease 2019. AMS Virtual Visits virtually connects with school-aged children and older adults.
Please fill out this form if you would like to get involved!
Please note this opportunity is currently only for AMS students.
You can also join the #virtual_visits channel on COVID-RI Slack and introduce yourself to get started.

Connect for COVID-19 is a grassroots national organization working to get smart devices into the hands of isolated populations so that they can remain connected with friends and family in the time of COVID.
A team of Brown medical students is leading a regional branch of the organization and have partnered up with URI and COVID Connectors, an organization previously working on the task here in RI.
Connect for COVID-19 could use additional volunteers here in RI to help with efforts on the ground to coordinate pickup, delivery, and donations, along with volunteers to help with corporate outreach.
Please fill out the Google Form to request devices for your facility, and please consider sharing the GoFundMe to further assist this project.

RIDOH has requested the help of AMS students in delivering a virtual curriculum to Woonsocket Area Career and Tech High School students pursuing the Health Careers Track (CNA program).
We are looking for first-years who are willing to provide a presentation on a health topic of their choice via Zoom to ~ 24 high school students. The presentation will be 25 min long, with 5 min at the end for questions. Suggested topics include vaping, alcohol use, STI prevention, pregnancy, nutrition counseling, musculoskeletal topics, leukemia, asthma, hepatitis, spinal cord injuries, depression, etc. Additionally, we ask that you develop one brief question for the students to answer about your presentation. They will do a write up as part of their grade. You do not need to read/make comments on the reflections.
Students who have completed service learning already and would still like to help out are encouraged to participate.
Please note this opportunity is currently only for AMS students.
