You can access resources for video and animation within CATS including: camera, lighting and audio equipment, studio space and editing stations.
Working with video and animation is often multi-disciplinary, utilizing visual imagery, audio, illustration, etc.
We have a variety of options for both onsite and studio recording.
Equipment Checkout provides access to full-frame mirrorless cameras for video along with a variety of lenses. We also provide tripods, lighting, and other equipment so you can record anywhere. The EQ checkout requires a general training and one for mirrorless cameras.
The Studio 4 Creative Production (Granoff, N330) has the same mirrorless camerawe offer in Equipment Checkout right in the room. It also has lighting equipment, backdrops, etc, perfect for video shoots. Requires training.
Self-Service Recording Booth in the Multimedia Lab to record voice over or narration. It fits one person comfortably and doesn't require training. Great for shorter recording sessions. Requires orientation.
The Multimedia Lab (Granoff, N320) has a variety of software for video editing, available at each of our Mac Studio workstations. To gain access complete our orientation.
Adobe Premiere is an industry standard editing software for video included in the Adobe Suite.
DaVinci Resolve an alternative to Premiere. Resolve is prefered by many users.
Adobe Audition when working with audio for video, combining Audition with your workflow can be very helpful.
Adobe After Effects for adding effects, animations and motion graphics to your project.
The Multi-User Editing Station in the Multimedia Lab, lets small teams edit collaboratively on a large 60" screen, with professional speaker monitors.
The MML Video Guide, houses a curated set of resources for video makers, including an editing tutorial made by CATS using Adobe Premiere
The Multimedia Lab (Granoff, N320) has a variety of tools and software for animation. To gain access complete our orientation.
Drawing tablet screens are great for illustration and animation etc. Instead of using a mouse, you use a special pen stylus that lets you "draw" on the screen, allowing more a much more intuitive workflow.
Dragonframe and stop-motion down shooters are great if you are shooting stop motion animations from above. Dragonframe is specifically designed to capture images for your stop-motion animation.
Krita is an open-source drawing and animation software with features tailored to that workflow. Krita is great paired with our drawing tablets.
Blender is an open-source 3D rendering and animation software. It is highly versatile and can be used to 2D animation as well.
