CATS members have access to a variety of resources for capturing, scanning, editing, manipulating, and printing photos, digital images, old prints and negatives, documents
There are a variety of areas to engage in photograhy and image making.
CATS has a variety of tools to help you capture images
Our Equipment Checkout provides access to full-frame mirrorless cameras along with a variety of lenses. The EQ checkout requires an initial online training and then a second online training for the mirrorless cameras.
The Granoff MML has a rolling scanner cart, which can scan in prints (positives) developed film (negatives) and even slides (transparencies) Roll the cart to any station or use it to work on your laptop.
The Studio 4 Creative Production has an in-house camera, the same one we offer in EQ Checkout. It also has great lighting equipment, backdrops, etc for setting up photo shoots. Requires training.
The Multimedia Lab (Granoff, N320) has a variety of software and peripherals that will let you generate your own images using digital tools. To gain access complete our orientation.
Adobe Photoshop is a great tool for retouching and editing photos. It can also be used to digitally "paint", letting you make new digital images from scratch.
Adobe Lightroom is a great tool for organzing your images and applying very basic adjustments across the entire image, like brightness, saturation, etc. quickly across multiple images at once
Adobe Illustrator is set up for illustration, letting you make images out of vector graphics
Drawing tablet screens are located in the Multimedia Lab, which are great for retouching, digital painting, illustration, etc. Instead of using a mouse, you use a special pen stylus that lets you "draw" on the screen, allowing more a much more intuitive workflow.
CATS maintains a large-format fine art printer, that produces museum level quality prints at the Multimedia Lab (Granoff N320) A few things to note about our Fine Art Printer:
It requires an online quiz followed by in-person training.
The training can take up to a full week to process, so get trained well in advance of when you need to print.
We do provide an inital stipend for new users who pass training, however after that, members have to pay for prints.
