Algebra:

Pre-Algebra: Continued working on any outstanding Freckle assignments from last week, as well as the Multiplying and Dividing with Positive Powers Worksheet. Additionally, students worked on the Intro to Exponents assignment in Freckle.

Homework: Spend 10 minutes working on Basic Skills Practice Week 1 due September 14 OR working any Freckle assignments that are not completed.

STAR Math: Tuesday, September 15 (Cohort A) and Friday, September 18 (Cohort B)

Language Arts: Students reviewed the rules for writing complete sentences and fixing fragments and run-on sentences and completed an activity where they needed to turn fragments and run-ons into well-written sentences.

Reading: Students are introduced to new logs and lists for the year. They are to begin compiling a list of books they'd like to read this year.

Science: Completed a Graphing Skills Check, Read and answered questions on Discovery Ed.com "Discover the Power of Kinetic Energy" and completed the prior knowledge questions. Hit the "to do" button and make sure all science work is turned in.

U.S. History:

Algebra:

Pre-Algebra: Started unit on Exponential Notation (8.1 Lesson 1) by learning about the parts of exponential notation and practicing identifying the base and exponent portions. Students worked on Classwork #1-10, and then started #11-14.

Homework: Spend 10 minutes working on Basic Skills Practice Week 1 due September 14 OR working any Freckle assignments that are not completed.

STAR Math: Tuesday, September 15 (Cohort A) and Friday, September 18 (Cohort B)

Language Arts: Students reviewed the activity on correcting fragments and run-ons and applied these skills to editing the piece that they wrote last week based on the book What We Keep.

STAR Reading: Monday, September 14 (Cohort A) and Thursday, September 17 (Cohort B)

Reading: Students are introduced to a scoring rubric we will be using this year. They are to practice using it by scoring 10 (or 11) genre slides giving both a numerical score and reason for each.

Science: Students worked with the Science Techbook (Discovering the Power of Kinetic Energy) Explore Section, Pages 1 & 2. Students needed to complete the 3 questions at the bottom of EACH explore page.

U.S. History:

Algebra:

Pre-Algebra: Continued 8.1 Lesson 1 on Exponential Notation, finishing Classwork #11 -14 if not done and working on additional practice problems through the ASSISTments tool.

Homework: Spend 10 minutes working on Basic Skills Practice Week 1 due September 14 OR working any Freckle assignments that are not completed.

STAR Math: Tuesday, September 15 (Cohort A) and Friday, September 18 (Cohort B)

Language Arts: Practice revising fragments and run-on sentences. Create a story using a topic from your Heart Map. Write for 25-30 minutes and submit (even if it is unfinished).

STAR Reading: Monday, September 14 (Cohort A) and Thursday, September 17 (Cohort B)

Reading: Students are introduced to some questions to look for when learning about the main character's perspective. I modeled part one of a short story. They are to do the same procedure with part 2 (this includes reading, annotating and filling out notes matching our 3 guiding questions).

Science: Watched the video "All About Energy" to Complete the Activity Worksheet: All About Energy and the "Energy in my Life" question

Algebra:

Pre-Algebra: Continued 8.1 Lesson 1 on Exponential Notation, reinforcing the concept of an exponent. Students also had a note check to make sure they are engaging with the video lessons, whether in school or at home.

Homework: Spend 10 minutes working on Basic Skills Practice Week 1 due September 14 OR working any Freckle assignments that are not completed.

STAR Math: Tuesday, September 15 (Cohort A) and Friday, September 18 (Cohort B)

Language Arts: Students will learn 6 different ways of starting a story (story leads). Students will practice writing 3 different leads for the stories they wrote yesterday.

STAR Reading: Monday, September 14 (Cohort A) and Thursday, September 17 (Cohort B)

Reading: Students will continue with characterization. They are to read part 3 of the short story - reading it, doing annotations and notes.

Science: Potential Energy on Shelves Gizmos Activity: Students completed the Warm-ups and Activity A.
